Tom Platt believes that a tough pre-season helped Boston United to pick up three points as they returned from a two-week break.

Yesterday's 3-2 victory over an impressive AFC Telford United side saw the Pilgrims make it two wins out of two in the National League North so far, moving up to fifth in the National League North in the process.

What made the victory even more remarkable was that the squad had been forced to self isolate for a fortnight before the campaign due to cases of COVID-19 in the camp.

"It's going to be a weird season for most clubs, but a tough pre-season put us in good stead," Platt said.

"We've got to look after ourselves as well, do the running and things like that.

"It (isolation) didn't affect us too much. We were feeling good before the break and we carried it on.

"It was frustrating as we just had a really good win (at Leamington prior to isolation), but the lads are pleased to get back out there - hopefully we can keep that run going.

"It's been a strange time but we've all been in contact most days and we were itching to get out there."

Yesterday was Telford's first defeat over 90 minutes this season, Platt enjoying the tough encounter as the rain lashed down at the Northolme.

"It's great to come back and get another three points," he added.

"Having been away, when you come back you probably haven't got time to ease yourself in, but at the end of the day the three points is the main thing. If you have a good game the points follow and we did that today.

"Telford have had a good start and they're a good side, got a lot of big lads and they've got quality as well on the ball. It makes it even more important we got the points.

"It rained from start to finish, a bit slippy and it makes it a battle. It was enjoyable."
