‘we’re Jekyll and Hyde’

STEVE Toyne has accused his Dinnington Town side of putting in Jekyll and Hyde performances.

The Phoenix Park men delighted their boss with a 2-0 win in the FA Vase on Saturday, before suffering a fourth league defeat in a row on Tuesday.

Town progressed in the cup competition thanks to their victory over Grimsby Borough, with second half goals from Danny Reet and new Georgian signing Dachi Khutsishvili.

But their poor league form continued in midweek, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic taking all three points from Phoenix Park after scoring twice in the final three minutes.

Toyne described a week that contained highs and lows.

“I was very pleased with Saturday’s win, but I think I would swap it for three points,” he said.

“We’re putting in Jekyll and Hyde performances.”

Dinnington went a goal behind on 22 minutes as Adam Podmore netted for Worsbrough.

Liam Cartledge hit back for Town before the break, and Martin Wade’s 85th minute goal should have sealed a third NCEL Division One win of the season for Dinnington. But Podmore’s second two minutes later, and Gareth Hunter’s strike two minutes from time condemned Toyne’s side to another disappointing result.

The boss blamed naivety and a poor work ethic.

He told the Guardian: “We were completely naive and didn’t work hard enough closing people down, right from the front.”

“They thought they had it won, so it’s a lesson for them – if they don’t take anything from it it’s a waste of time.”

Toyne admitted being bitterly disappointed, but vowed to keep working hard to turn the league form around.

“I was distraught.”

“I shall keep changing things until we hit a winning formula, I’ve got to keep looking at players.”

Dinnington are back in league action on Saturday when they host Hemsworth Miners Welfare, before Hallam pay a visit to Phoenix Park in the Sheffield Senior Cup on Tuesday.
