White out for local football

A TOTAL white out for all local football was bad news for the Gainsborough and District Sunday League, creating a fixture headache for a number of teams.

Second round games in the Presiden’ts Cup were due to be played at the weekend, and an entire programme of fixtures fell victim to the frost and snowfall.

The league’s Steve Lilley told the Standard the next few weeks will be vital for getting the fixture list back on track.

He said: “It creates a fixture headache over the coming weeks with several other cup competitions also scheduled, so it will mean quite a mixture of fixtures in the coming weeks.”

“I urge all clubs to watch the league website for any changes that will inevitably have to take place.”

“There will now have to be some evening games in April, something I know the clubs do not relish but sadly they are now unavoidable for a few teams.”

The league has three representatives in the semi-finals of the Notts County Sunday Minor Cup next weekend.

Steve added: “We wish all three the best of luck and weather allowing we may have two of our clubs in a county final.”
