Wongers want to topple leaders

The Wongers head to Louth Town on Saturday, hoping to pick up three points against one of their bogey teams.

“We’ve always struggled against Louth,” admitted manager Mickey Stones.

“A couple of years ago they finished bottom and we still struggled there. Now they’re top and we’ve got to go there.

“It’s going to be a difficult one, they’re well organised, direct and the pitch is quite tight.

“It’s a difficult one for us, but we’ll be the best prepared we can be.”

The Wongers did their homework, watching the White Wolves as they met Lincoln Moorlands on Tuesday evening, another side they face this month.

Horncastle are also hoping former St Vincent and the Grenadines international keeper Kevan Henry will be available for selection after helping out the Wongers recently.

He was drafted in as a temporary replacement for injured number one Lewis Burchnall and has since returned after Charlie Wilkinson, who arrived on loan from Harrowby United, also picked up an injury.

Henry was in goal as the Wongers secured a 4-0 home win over basement boys Sleaford Town Juniors on Saturday.

“We needed a result and we’re pleased with the result,” Stones added.

“The performance we were happy with as well. Sleaford are bottom of the league but there are no gimmes in the Lincs League this season and we knew we’d have to play well and, to be fair, we did.

“We were disappointed how we ended the game. We didn’t quite keep the intensity.

“But the way the lads started, we were always going to win the game - there was a real, high tempo and we had too much for them.”

Josh Lewis scored a brace while Pedro Sevilha and Nadir Boulaid also got on the scoresheet.

Lewis, a University of Lincoln student, has netted three times in two games after being converted from a wing back to a striker.

Fellow scorer Sevilha needs no introduction to members of the club’s mangement team, having won the Lincs League title with them at Boston United Reserves.

He now lives in Yorkshire, but has agreed to link up with the club due to the majority of the away matches being in the north of the county.
