Manager Joe Greswell believes his Wyberton side’s early goal blitz was the key to booking a place in the Lincolnshire Junior Cup semi-finals.

His side beat Crowle Town Colts 5-1 - with four goals arriving in the opening half hour.

“I am relived as Crowle’s league doesn’t have a Christmas break and knew they would have a fitness advantage over us,” Greswell said.

“To be honest it showed near the end. We said we needed a good start and you can’t ask more then being 4-0 up after 30 minutes, so credit to the lads for that.

“Luckily our development team let us have there fixture last weekend so some of the boys had a bit of game time, but most hadn’t kicked a ball since the Horncastle game (December 14).

“As a manager you can’t ask anymore from your team. So happy for the lads, we love a county cup day.”

Wyberton started the better side and soon found themselves 1-0 up from an Evison rocket from outside the area.

Britton was on hand to tap in a Nicky Frost cross soon after, and Britton scored his second after a smart finish inside the box.

The attacker got his hat-trick after following a back pass to the Crowle keeper and getting to the ball first, taking it round him and putting it in an empty net.

Crowle kept putting Wyberton under pressure and got the goal they deserved.

The second half kicked off and it didn’t take long for Wyberton to score their fifth.

A Grant Butler free kick found the head of Scott Dawson who forced the Crowle keeper into a smart save, but the loose ball was tapped home by White.

Crowle kept pushing and creating half chances but nothing to serious trouble the Wyberton goal.

Wyberton host Horncastle in the Lincs League on Saturday (KO 2pm).
