Joe Greswell was left reflecting upon a ‘bad day’ as Wyberton were beaten 2-0 at Louth Town on Saturday.

The Colts were looking to bounce back from back-to-back Lincs League defeats to Horncastle away at London Road.

Following an even start, Wyberton conjured up a shooting opportunity from a set-piece, but as Scott Dawson met Grant Butler’s free kick his volley was saved.

The White Wolves’ opener came from a free kick which was knocked back across goal, the final touch coming off a Wyberton player.

Much like in their recent games, Wyberton didn’t create any real chances going forward, their best effort seeing Will Britton just miss the target after getting on the end of a long ball.

Louth’s second goal saw them take advantage of a two-on-one situation as they put the game to bed in the 87th minute.

“After last weekend’s defeat I felt that it was only fair to start the lads who have missed out the previous two weeks and give them a chance to prove themselves and force their way into the 11,” Greswell said.

“But unfortunately I didn’t get the response I wanted.

“The only positive from today was Elliot Pogson. I have four great centre backs and, rightly or wrongly, he hasn’t started since Christmas, but he came in and took his chance and was our best player.

“The only bad thing was he couldn’t really influence us going forward, but he has forced himself into the 11 next weekend and is the first name on my sheet. Other then that it was another bad day really. I felt before the goal we looked okay and were in control, but they got their goal and it changed things.

Greswell also took time to praise the hosts on their performance, adding: “That gave them the confidence to go on and win the game.

“Louth deserve a lot of credit as they have a good young side on their hands who make life difficult.

“If you’re going to beat them you’re going to have to earn it and we didn’t earn anything in all honesty.”

On Saturday Wyberton host Lincoln Moorlands in the Supplementary Cup, are-run of last season’s final, which Moorlands won 1-0 after extra time (KO 1.30pm).
