There were no footballing rivalries on show when Boston United chairman David Newton was presented with a watercolour of the Pilgrims’ York Street stadium... by Kettering Town fan Brian Munton.

Mr Munton, 85, was asked to create the artwork by his daughter and son-in-law Sue and Guy Dix, who are both avid Boston fans, to help commemorate the club’s final year at the ground which has been their home since 1933.

The framed original was presented to Mr Newton during the Pilgrims’ 2-1 recent victory over the Poppies at York Street, which Mr Munton and his son Dave and grandson Samuel attended.

“I asked my dad if he would paint York Street for me as it is the last season there,” said Mrs Dix, who is originally from Kettering but moved to Boston shortly after getting married.

“He painted a watercolour of Kettering’s ground Rockingham Road prior to demolition and it proved very popular.

“This painting took him a couple of weeks to complete – the weather was bad so he couldn’t get out much.”
