Trevor Gaze’s youngsters were up against a strong Beighton Magpies side who before the game were expected to go on and win.

And Beighton started strongly in the first quarter of the game, but Worksop defended well and gave their opponents no time on the ball to play their usual fluent football.

A free-kick was awarded to Worksop just inside the Beighton half and Christian Beaumont fired home an unstoppable shot to give Worksop the lead.

Rattled, Beighton came back well, but again Worksop continued to close down their opponents.

Another long Beaumont free-kick caused disarray in the Beighton box and the keeper fumbled into his own goal.

The second half began with Beighton attacking, but it was Worksop who extended their lead from a corner when a Travis Matthews cross was thumped home by Charlie Barks to make it 3-0 Worksop.

A consolation goal in the latter stages by Beighton was too little, too late.

The Worksop manager was understandably delighted with his side.

He said: “It’s a fine end to a great season and a well deserved trophy for the boys.”
