YOUTH FOOTBALL: Horncastle Town Girls show progress despite defeat

Under-11 Girls

Horncastle Town 0

Horncastle Town Girls welcomed Grimsby to The Wong on a cold Valentine’s Day Sunday morning.

Hopes were high going into the match and the girls’ work ethic was fantastic. It was a real team effort and with only one substitute, there was little chance for the coach to make any changes and rest players.

The girls are now playing a good passing game and HTFC were definitely the team that wanted to win the most as they fought on to have several attempts on goal and won more corners from a very well disciplined Grimsby side.

The half time score was 1-0 as Horncastle fought on. Grimsby made some great moves that were skilfully stopped by the defensive team of Sky, Phoebe and Charlotte who hunted down every ball and, with Ellie also covering her goal well, the visitors were struggling to get through.

Freya had a great game and really held her position well and made some well timed tackles. A half time substitution gave Town’s new player Anais an opportunity to get on the scoreboard in attack and she had several attempts on goal.

It was a passing game from HTFC with some great movement up the wings from Charlotte to Evie and Anais. Ella played well throughout the game and became a nuisance to the Grimsby side as she won the ball on many occasions and tirelessly chased down the opposition, winning her player of the match.

There was some great link-up play from HTFC and it was easy to see how much progress the girls gave made in the past six months.

HTFC welcomed Grimsby back to the clubhouse for a bite to eat and look forward to playing them again in the near future.

HTFC Girls take a week’s break and return to league action away to Bottesford Town on February 27, 11am kick-off.
