In-form Emma leads the Newton runners home

In Grantham the Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon offered an interesting route from the town’s athletics track, along the canal tow-path and taking in country lanes with steep hills before a return to the track.

In-form Emma Marshall-Telfer was the first club runner home in 1 hr 38 mins 53 secs, claiming a PB.

Ian Russell was the first club male in 1:44.14, ahead of Helen Blair in :50.45.

Bob Green and Dan Francis ran together in 1:54.31 while Mark Simons completed the course in 2:05.45, just ahead of Kerry Bird in 2:09.06 and Brian Darrington in 2:09.06.

Cheryl Pawson clocked 2:21.53.

More than 8,000 runners took on a course though the centre of Cambridge, passing some of the city’s finest buildings before heading along King’s Parade and out of the city via Trumpington Street.

After looping around Trumpington and Grantchester the race headed back through the city and finished in Victoria Avenue and Midsummer Common.

There was less than two minutes separating all six of the Skegness and District runners who competed.

Sharon Sykes finished in 1:54.27, ahead of Sarah Hyde, Catriona Kiss and Odette Arundell, who ran together in 1:55.36.

Twenty seconds behind in 1:55.56 was Melanie Standbrook, running with Stuart Cragg.

The club meets every week in Skegness, Boston and Spilsby.
