The Hull-based side were promoted to the National League via the play-offs at the end of last season, but lost manager Billy Heath to FC Halifax Town soon afterwards.

Housham, who parted company with Gainsborough in March after four-and-a-half years at the helm, now has the challenge of keeping a small village team in the top flight of non-league football, but it is one he is relishing.

He said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage in the National League with North Ferriby.

“My message to the fans is to enjoy the ride and be proud that the club are playing at this level of football.”

The Villagers’ joint chairman Eman Forster added: “Steve’s obvious passion will have a tremendous impact on North Ferriby United going forward into this exciting year in the National League.

“We are looking forward to working with him.”
