Lewis, the head of mini tennis at Louth Tennis and Sports Centre, got to meet the GB skipper after being selected as a Legacy Coach to help deliver the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) new Tennis for Kids initiative in the Louth area.

The scheme aims to leave a legacy from last November’s landmark Davis Cup victory - Britain’s first since 1936 - by inspiring children aged from five to eight years to pick up a racket and play tennis for the first time.

In 2016 the LTA hope to give 10,000 children the chance to play tennis for free, and have recruited 1,000 Legacy Coaches from around the country to join Smith and other influential coach mentors such as Annabelle Croft and Greg Rusedski.

A free six-week course begins at Louth Tennis Centre on Monday between 4pm and 5pm.

Rackets and balls are provided and children who attend a minimum of four of the six dates will get to keep their racket.

The course will focus on core tennis skills, and how to be a valuable member of a team and work with a partner, all in a relaxed and fun environment.

The sessions at Louth are not weather-dependant, and therefore guaranteed, and parents can relax in the Café Bistro while the sessions are held.
