Gainsborough bowls club receives funding boost

Roses Bowls Club are celebrating after receiving a grant of £18,120 from WREN to fun improvements.

The North Warren Road club have been working with Gainsborough Town Council’s Sports Development Officer to secure the funding to carry out essential work to the greens, install a celling and electrics and upgrade toilet facilities in the pavilion.

Roy Greenan, chairman of the development committee, said: “We raised funds to build the pavilion, but did not have sufficient money to finish the job and repair the greens, without this support we would not have been able to carry out the repairs and improvements.”

The development will ensure that bowlers can continue with the sport and the club hope to see more players taking part this year.

Wren is a not for profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s grant manager for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the refurbishment of this much loved facility and pleased that our funding will enable to people of Gainsborough to become involved in this leisure activity.

“WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon.”

It is hoped that the work will be completed before the start of the season.
