Gainsborough club wants Murray boost

The club wants to entice new members to their courts, behind the Peacock Inn on Corringham Road, and are offering weekly coaching sessions and discount on joining fees.

Chairman Phil Green said the Scot’s victory over Novak Djokovic could increase the number of youngsters participating in tennis.

He told the Standard: “Having not had a British male winner of Wimbledon for 77 years, Andy Murray will hopefully now be regarded by the children as a hero, and inspire them to want to pick up a racquet and play tennis.”

“Everyone at the club is extremely happy that Andy managed to secure the win. we all toasted his victory, and hope this is the start of many Grand Slam wins.”

The club holds coaching sessions every Sunday from 12.30pm, and have dropped their membership fees by 15 per cent for new members to £20 for juniors under the age of 17 and £80 for adults.

On Sunday 14th July newcomers are invited to take part in the Mike Pickles Mixed Doubles tournament, starting at 2pm.
