And the events have varied from friendly roll ups to the hotly contested ladies versus gents match.

On 7th August Welbeck were entertained by Mansfield Brewery at the Fretwell Centre, with Mansfield winning by a small margin.

Four days later club members enjoyed a roll up at home, before a visit to Blyth Bowls Club on 13th for crown green bowls.

On Sunday 25th it was the turn of Welbeck gentlemen to battle it out for the Gents Trophy Cup which was a 2 bowl knock out over 10 ends for each leg. Although Welbeck only play crown green once a year they proved themselves to be worthy opponents in a close defeat.

Welbeck were due to play against Wheatley on Saturday 17th, but Wheatley were unable to field enough players and this match will now be played on Saturday 31st August at Wheatley.

Sunday 18th August was probably the most keenly contended match of the year, when the Welbeck ladies played the gents.

This year there were 18 contestants from each side and at the end of the afternoon the gents managed a win in a very close fought contest.

On Tuesday 20th August the Welbeck players visited Tuxford Bowls Club for an evening’s bowling.

Once again Welbeck’s opponents were short of players and looked to Welbeck to supplement them to balance out the numbers.

As always seems to be the case when Welbeck lend players to the opposition, they play their best, helping the other side to a close victory.

Wednesday 21st saw the second leg of the annual tryst with Farnsfield Bowls Club at Welbeck.

Having lost the first leg, Welbeck were keen to regain the honours and were able to overcome the deficit and finish victorious.
