Another injury for Lee at Le Golf National

In 2010 the Worksop man ruptured a muscle in his calf at the event, and this year after finishing with a share of 40th place, he explained how the latest niggle happened on the third day of the tournament.

“I was talking to Richard Sterne’s caddie and not looking where I was going.”

“I was walking to the first tee and my left foot went forward about two feet and my right foot stayed. I felt like I strained something in my groin in the right leg and just tweaked my knee, as well.”

In an attempt to ease the injury and stay loose Westwood played on, shooting a five over par round of 76.

He said: “I just kept stretching and it seems to have eased up a little bit.”

“I thought that if I stopped that would make it worse and it was better to keep it moving.”

“In the back of your mind, you don’t have the confidence to load up on the right side, so it’s difficult, but I just felt the best thing to do was to stay out there and keep it loose.”

Westwood will rest this weekend ahead of The Open at Royal Lytham, starting next Thursday.

Fello Worksop golfer Mark Foster finished 28th in France on Sunday, two over par for the tournament.
