Dave Coupland will keep his place on the European Tour next year.

The Boston golfer, who is attached to Woodhall Spa GC, was enjoying his debut campaign on the continent's top tier until the coronavirus forced action to stop.

Coupland, who earned his place on the Tour at Q School in November, admitted he had spent time questioning what this could mean for his future.

"They have told us the categories from this year will be the same next year on the European Tour," he said.

"That's great news for me."

Coupland hasn't given up hope of some tournaments being staged later this year, which he hopes to use to his advantage.

"If we can play some more tournaments this year then it's a chance to go out there with no immediate pressure, knowing I don't have to try to keep my card," he added.

"I was getting anxious as I felt there might be a lot of pressure for me to keep my card, so it was a relief to know I was safe for next year."

After weeks of being stuck at home, Coupland returned to action last Wednesday, as golf was able to resume.

"It felt good to be back, a little bit of relief," he continued.

"It felt brilliant to be back on the course and it didn't feel like there'd been a long lay off. It didn't feel like I'd had seven or eight weeks off.

"Competition golf is a long way off. Right now it's about keeping yourself fresh."
