Late charge earns Ashton Turner thrilling play-off win

Kenwick Park golfer Ashton Turner maintained his impressive pre-season form with his second victory on the Portugal Pro Tour last week.

Ashton Turner picked up four top-three finishes on the Portugal Pro Tour, including two wins EMN-200316-133738002

Having won at the end of January, Turner returned to Portugal two weeks later to play three more tournaments.

The Alford star went into the O’Connor Classic II on the back of third and second place finishes, and needing a win to complete a 3-2-1 sequence.

Having shot five-under-par on day one, the 23-year-old lay well placed, just two strokes off the lead.

Turner will head into the season in fine shape after consistently good form on the Algarve EMN-200316-133728002

But a slow front nine on the final round of eight pars and a solitary birdie saw him slip further off the pace.

However, he exploded into life, carding four consecutive birdies from the 12th hole on his way to a five-under par back nine.

An 11-under-par total for 36 holes saw Turner force his way into a play-off, and with the momentum with him, the Lincolnshire golfer rolled in an uphill 40-foot putt at the third extra hole to claim a thrilling victory.
