Lee ‘amped’ for PGA Tour Championship

LEE Westwood is ‘amped’ and ready for the PGA Tour Championship on 20th September, after a ding dong battle with Rory McIlroy at the weekend.

The Worksop superstar finished second, two shots behind McIlroy, at the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick, Indiana on Sunday.

His performance qualified him for the final FedEx Cup tournament, the Tour Championship, which will feature the top 30 players in the rankings – Westwood lies eighth.

“I’m quite amped up,” he said on Sunday after finishing 18 under for the tournament.

“I’m in good position for it, so hopefully will come back in two weeks and try and win.”

A first round of 68, four under par, put him in contention, and Friday’s 65 pushed him into a share of fifth place.

Playing alongside Tiger Woods on Saturday Westwood kicked on again, another 68 giving him every chance of victory on the final day.

Westwood and McIlroy were paired for Sunday’s round, and although Westwood shot five birdies, he had to settle for a share of second with Phil Mickelson as McIlroy took the top prize.

Looking back on his final round Westwood said: “It was a good day out on the golf course. I played rather well, and it was a fun day out there.”
