Notts captaincy honour for Worksop golf prodigy

A WORKSOP teenager has been made captain of the Notts County Juniors, after a busy year playing around the UK and abroad.

Emily Lyle has had an eventful season, winning the Notts Schools Championship, representing the British Junior Golf Tour in Indonesia and winning the Lindrick Girls Open.

The youngster hopes to pass on some of the expertise she has gained from working with Lee Westwood’s former coach John King at Lindrick.

She said: “I want to help the younger girls achieve the most out of the game, and put back into the sport what I’ve been taught.”

Lyle has been hard at work under the watchful eye of King, and enjoying some friendly competition with the boys, playing off the mens competition tees.

“This is helping me with my long game, and I have to get close to the flag to beat the boys.”

Her hopes for 2013 include qualification for the Jakarta Championship, and bettering her 12th place achieved at this year’s tournament.

Dad Andrew told the Guardian: “We’re really proud of what she has achieved with her golf and school work, at a difficult time growing into a young lady.”
