South Kyme is one of the first clubs in Lincolnshire to have a female club captain, and. Carole was presented with her captain’s blazer by the outgoing skipper Ray Duncan at the season-opening Drive-in on Sunday, March 15.

Mother of two Carole, 61, lives in Ruskington with her partner John and is a chef at St George’s Academy, in Sleaford.

Having not played any sport since PE in school, she started playing golf in 2007 as something to do after her daughters left home when club professional and director of golf Peter Chamberlain was offering free lessons.

Carole has served the club in many capacities since joining, including junior section organiser/chairwoman.

In 2012 she became the first female captain of the Rabbits section, for 16+ handicaps, and has served on several of the club’s committees.

“It is a great honour to be elected club captain,” she said.

“It is still very rare for a woman to be elected to such a prominent position in a golf club and I hope this will encourage more women to take on this role in other clubs.

“I’m hoping my time as captain will encourage more people, particularly women, to involve themselves in our sport.”

South Kyme Golf Club has been nominated as one of the top 10 best golf clubs in Lincolnshire and has many sections for players of all ages and abilities.
