Westwood fifth after hole-in-one

LEE Westwood finished in fifth place at the Shanghai Masters at the weekend, after notching a hole-in-one.

The event carried a first prize of $2 million, which was won by Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy after a play-off.

Worksop’s Westwood closed on 12 under par, six shots behind McIlroy.

The world number two’s hole-in-one came at the par three 12th hole, in his final round.

He remains in China this week for the WGC-HSBC Championship.

MARK Foster gained a share of 19th place in the Andalucia Masters at the tough Valderrama course.

He started with a steady round of 72, one over par, but a 77 on day two saw him make the cut by just one shot.

Three birdies and just one bogey in the third round saw him climb the field.

An up and down round of 71 on the final day, included six birdies, six bogies and six pars.

His total of 289 was five over par.

WORKSOP Golf Club Gents Medal Final results: Division One, M. Hancock 70-1=69 from I. Vaughan 77-6=71. Division Two, S. Williamson 78-12=66 from K. Thompson 77-11=66. Division Three, P. Spencer 86-18=68 from D. Dickinson 85-16=69.

Best gross was M. Hancock 70.

The Ladies Medal Final: Silver Division, Adele Haddon 87-12=75 from Ainee Sam 92-15=77. Bronze Division, Maureen Simpson 107-25=82 from Molly Hunt 108-25=83.

SERLBY Park’s Thursday Medal Final was won by Alan Chambers 74-12=62 from Ayden Hall 77-12=65, Steven Blackburn 86-18=68, Andrew Chatterton 77-8=79 and Michael Batty 80-11=69.

The Ladies EWGA Medal went to Wendy Crooks 82-15=67 from Linda Ranby 80-12=68 and Pamela Rogerson 80-12=68.

The EWGA Saturday Medal was won by Cheryl Gee 76-10=66.
