GYMNASTICS: Lincs Championships enjoy great turnout at Horncastle school

Banovallum Gymnastics Club hosted the Lincolnshire Primary School's Floor and Vault Gymnastics Championships at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School on Sunday.

The event received a fantastic turnout with 168 gymnasts taking part from 27 different schools.

Banovallum entered 49 gymnasts and another 24 from its school gym club at Sutterton Four Fields.

In the under-7 boys’, two of the club’s boys finished joint first with 18.30 points – Jonathan Rickard (Horncastle School) and Lenny Poppy from St Andrews went home with gold medals and shared the title.

In the mixed team, St Andrews finished second, scoring 71.8 with the team consisting of Lenny Poppy, Amelie and Lily Tiainen, Lucy Bradbury and Gracie Granger. Horncastle were third with 70.20 with the team comprising Jonathan Rickard, Lacy Jones, Erin Chinery and Jessie Pearson.

Individual under-7 results: boys – 1st Jonathan and Lenny 18.30, 10th Jenson Miller (Horncastle) 16.30, 12th Oliver 14.80 (Coningsby St Michael’s); girls: =8th Lacy Jones (Horncastle) and Lily Tiainen (St Andrews) 18.4, 10th Rachael Hall (Partney) 18.1, 11th Prudence Gilbert (Kirkby on Bain) 18.0, 13th Lucy Bradbury (St Andrews) 17.80, =15th Amelie Tiainen (St Andrews) and Nieve Steels (Horncastle) 17.30, =19th Megan Haydon (Coningsby St Michaels) and Erin Chinery (Horncastle) 17.0, 22nd Gracie Granger (St Andrews) 16.70, 24th Jessie Pearson (Horncastle) 16.5, 31st Alyah Salem 15.60, 32nd Hannah Salem 15.1 (Horncastle).

The under-9s and under-11s were split into two levels – Level 2 are those gymnasts who have competed at county competition or passed the score of 18.00 last year. Level 1 are non-competitive gymnasts.

Performing at Level 2, Marty Jackson (Cherry Willingham) was first in the under-9s with 21.3. His floor score was almost perfect, scoring 12.8 out of a possible 13.00, and he had the highest score of the entire day from all age groups.

Runner-up with 19.9 was Elliot Brooks (Sutterton) and Matthew Hall (Partney) was third with 18.9.

It was another clean sweep for Horncastle in Level 1 boys with Thomas Rickard and Jay Wold joint first with 20.2. Third was Jack Greenslade (Sutterton) with 19.40 and Kai Skinner (Scramblesby) was seventh on 16.9.

The girls also enjoyed succes in Level 2. Megan Dennis (St Andrews) was third with 20.6, whilst Horncastle’s Helaina Wold (19.2) and Marla Bell (18.6) were eighth and nine respectively.

Under-9 girls’ Level 1 – 1st Lucy Blows (Great Steeping) 20.2, 3rd Sophie Wilderspin (Horncastle) 19.6, 15th Amy Pye (Kirkby on Bain) 18.1, 16th Emily Paige (Bucknall) 17.90, = 18th Imogen Trotter (Tealby) and Lucy Wiliamson (Wragby) 17.7, =20th Rachel Hall (Partney) 17.60, =32nd Isobel Baylis (Tealby) 17.0.

In the under-9 mixed teams, Horncastle finished first with 79.2. The team consisted of Jay, Thomas, Sophie, Helaina and Marla. Sutterton A team and B team were second and third respectively.

Under-11 girls’ Level 2 – 2nd Devon Buck (Tetford) 20.9, 4th Abi Clarkson (Tattershall) 20.4, 8th Jasmine Harris 20.1, 9th Gracie Danby 20.0, 15th Emily Rickard 18.6 (Horncastle); Level 1 – 5th Lily Stokle (St Andrews) 19.7, 7th Livi Forward (Tetford) 19.4, =8th Amy Lovett (Horncastle) 19.1, 14th Amy Christofi 18.5, =23rd India Hare 17.6 (St Andrews).

In the girls’ team, Horncastle were crowned under-11 champions with the team consisting of Emily Rickard, Amy Lovett, Gracie Danby and Jasmine Harris, scoring 77.8

All the competition was very close, only being separated by a tenth from one placing to another.

Banovallum head coach and competition organiser Debby Butler said: “We had some very good gymnastics throughout the day from all our gymnasts. They all competed to the best of their ability, many competing for the first time. I would like to congratulations to every one of them.

“A big thank you to the two judges, Pat and Julia, who judged all day from nine in the morning to 6pm, and did a sterling job. And all our coaches who give loads of their time at different sessions throughout the weeks and at the competition – Gareth, Alex, Linzi and Hannah.”
