Half marathon is full of opportunity

Runners of all abilities are being invited to sign up for this year’s Retford Half Marathon on Sunday 10th March.

The event, including a family fun run, attracts around 500 entrants each year and is organised by East Retford Rugby Club in association with Retford Athletic Club
Race Director, David Corbett from Retford Athletic Club is leading the organisation of the event and he hopes the race will cater for all types of runners.

He said: “The half marathon attracts serious runners, enthusiastic amateurs and newcomers as the course is mostly flat so it offers a good opportunity for those wanting to achieve a personal best time, and for those who just want the satisfaction of getting around the 13.1mile distance.”

Jon Matthews from East Retford Rugby Club added that those with new year resolutions could give themselves something to aim for by signing up.

“The half marathon’s become popular for many local runners, as well as for those wanting to take part in their first half marathon,” he said.

“We find that quite a few people sign up for the event just after Christmas to give them a goal of working off some of those extra calories put on over Christmas and to getting in shape to take part in and to complete the event.”

“It’s always a great day and a good atmosphere for the runners and for their families who come down to support them. The family fun run also attracts a lot of juniors from Retford and surrounding areas.”

The organisers have just launched a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/retfordhalf to provide more information including details of the course route, and an opportunity for runners to ask questions.

Online registration is available at the Run Britain website, and for those wanting to register offline, an entry form is now available on the Retford Athletic Club website www.retfordac.co.uk

The race organisers are also interested in hearing from potential race sponsors who can get in touch with the team at [email protected]
