Hard work pays off for Steamers' C25k crew

After eight weeks of hard work, the Woodhall Spa Steamers' Couch 2 5k team tackled their first race.

They competed at the Belton House Parkrun on Saturday.

“We faced lots of challenges throughout this eight-week programme, including the Beast from the East,” said club founder Helen Fletcher.

“This didn’t stop our motivated C25K team.

“Training continued even in the snow and this rewarded our team with success on Saturday.”

Couch 2 5k attempts to motivate beginners or lapsed runners to build up the ability to run a 5k race within a matter of weeks.

Helen added: “This programme started with a group of strangers on their own running journey, and has finished with friendships and happy memories.

“We may have completed our C25K programme but this is just the beginning of new running journeys.

“We feel very privileged to be on this journey with you.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the members of the Steamers who have supported this programme.”

The Steamers meet for a group run every Tuesday at 7.30pm and every Thursday for interval training, also at 7.30pm. They meet in the memorial square.
