Harriers get a lift

The high flying athlete – in the top four female throwers in the UK – came back to where it all began to give something back to local sport.

Ward, 19, started her career in athletics at Worksop Harriers, and dropped by Manton Athletic Club on Monday night to host a special training session for up and coming athletes.

Harriers coach John Harrison told the Guardian how much it meant to the club to have Olympic hopeful Ward involved this week.

“We really appreciate Tesni giving up her time for the Harriers and it was fantastic to have her back to give all our young athletes the benefit of all her knowledge and experience.”

“She is a brilliant inspiration and role model for them and shows how much is possible if you really dedicate yourself to your goals”.

“We wish her every success in the future and it would be great to see her compete in London 2012.”

Ward herself said it was encouraging to see emerging stars coming through the ranks at her home-town club.

The Sheffield Hallam student said: “It was great going back to the Harriers and remembering what it was like when I was younger just getting into it.”

“It was also great to see some of the future talent, some of them will definitely give me a run for my money when they get older.”

“The coaching went well and I loved watching them all have fun, that’s what athletics is all about.”
