The defeat was not as bad as it appears for Brigg had half a team on the ski slopes of the Alps and it was very much a makeshift team which travelled.

The visitors turned in a gallant display against a talented side from the Middlesbrough area despite the one-sided scoreline.

Brigg were 4-0 down at half-time, but pulled a goal back early in the second half through veteran former Lincoln and Hull player Tony Wing.

The home side soon added another, but Brigg got a second goal through Zac Meadows when he latched on to a pass from Josh Kirk and netted with an excellent reverse-stick shot.

Colin Lattimor made some good saves in the Brigg goal, while Meadows and his forward colleague Andrew Reid always threatened on the break.

The defeat leaves Brigg third from bottom in the league and while there is a comfortable gap to City of York immediately below them, there is also a gap developing above Brigg and three teams could be relegated if Yorkshire sides come down from the league above.

* Elsewhere, Brigg Seconds lost 3-2 to Ben Rhydding at Ilkley, while Brigg Mens Third XI were big 6-1 winners away at Huddersfield.

Brigg Fourth XI lost 7-2 at the hands of Doncaster Sixth XI.
