Boston Tennis Club’s Grade 4 Christmas Tournament took place during the festive break.

The Open Men’s singles was won by Matthew Gedney and the Ladies’ Open was won by Alice Gamman.

Alice won a close final and Boston club member Emma Mastin, also competing, was the consolation winner.

Lucas East and Will Cheer reached the latter stages of this event.

In the under 12s, boys’ and girls’ tournament there was a strong contingent from Boston involved. In the girls’ tournament, Matilda Clark and Poppy Gibbons competed, with Poppy finishing as runner-up.

The boys had four representatives from Boston. Paul Young won the consolation final with Ben Rudkin, who was knocked out by the number two seed in the first round, finishing fourth.

The final was contested between James Gedney and Will Pettitt, which was a close-fought match, decided by a championship tie-break in favour of Will.

In the boys’ and girls’ 14 and under events, Boston were represented by Poppy Gibbons in the girls’ event.

Ben Rudkin, Will Pettitt and James Gedney played in the boys’ competition.

Poppy finished third in her event with a good first-round win before losing to the number one seed in the semis.

In the boys’ event, Ben won his first match before fighting hard against the number one seed, but losing in straight sets. Will lost to the number three seed in two hard-fought sets.

James fought his way to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual winner and finishing fourth.

The 18 and under tournament saw Hayden Bingham and Will Cheer compete in the boys’ category.

William won the tournament, beating the number two seed in three sets.

Hayden lost in the consolation final.

The girls’ event saw Lois Boothby, Florence Baxter and Issie Wookey involved.

Issie Beat Florence in the first round before losing a tight match against the number one seed in the semis.

In the younger age groups, Neve Gibbons, Olivia Hilton, Lewis Patchett and Declan Dodes all gave good accounts of themselves.

In the eight years and under group, Callum Purdy, Reuben Smith, Louis Clark and Olivia Hilton competed, with Louis and Olivia finishing third and fourth respectively.
