Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Friday November 16

The big three-day Open meeting at Cheltenham begins today. But we go north in search of our next winner.

Friday November 16

EDUARD

Newcastle 12.20 WIN

It’s a big day for the best two novice hurdlers in the yard of Cumbrian trainer Nicky Richards. But whereas Duke Of Navan faces a stiff test in a hot Grade Two contest at Cheltenham’s Open meeting, this four-year-old has been handed a golden opportunity to get off the mark for the new season. Crack Irish jockey Davy Russell made a special journey to partner him on his hurdling debut at this same track last month, and although his mount was just touched off, he did little wrong. Brian Harding, who steered the gelding to an impressive victory in a bumper at Kelso in March, takes the ride today. Eduard’s potential matches his eyecatching pedigree -- as a son of Morozov, who was a triple Group winner on the Flat for Andre Fabre, and out of a dam who hails from the family of 2003 Grand National winner Monty’s Pass.
