Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Tuesday November 27

We are in the lap of the weather gods today. For Lingfield’s meeting goes ahead only if it passes an early-morning inspection.

SIRE DE GRUGY

Lingfield 2.00 WIN

Jockey Jamie Moore was brutally honest when getting off his trainer dad Gary’s stable star at Cheltenham’s Open meeting. “He just wasn’t good enough,” said Moore. “He’s not top class.” However, the six-year-old still ran well to finish second to one of the leading novice chasers in the country, Captain Conan, and he certainly won’t need to be top-class to gain consolation today. He does have to carry a 7lb penalty for a nice win on his seasonal debut but the testing conditions should not pose a problem, given that his handler says “you can’t get ground soft enough for him”. His main rival, Cantlow, needs further than this 2m trip to show his best and, in any event, was rated inferior over hurdles to the selection, whose string of creditable efforts last season included a three-length fourth to Champion Hurdle hope, Zarkandar, in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.
