Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’

We made a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure yesterday — thanks to a characteristic, never-say-die ride by the champion jockey Tony McCoy.

ELIDOR

Nottingham 1.55 WIN

The Flat season might be drawing to an end -- but there is still time to latch on to some progressive two-year-olds, including this half-brother to last year’s Irish Derby winner and Epsom Derby runner-up, Treasure Beach. Mick Channon’s colt, who cost as much as 120,000 guineas as a foal, showed little on his debut but improved dramatically at Goodwood last time for the fitting of a visor, which he wears again today. Although no match for the winner, he got much closer to him than on his initial outing and finished fully eight lengths clear of the rest, who included some respected rivals. He faces one or two potentially useful newcomers in this maiden, but I’m hopeful that he can put his experience to good use.
