Horsse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Thursday January 3

Our resident tipster, Scoop Racing (Richard Silverwood), is on a frustrating run at the moment as he keeps hitting the bar or the post! Let’s hope he scores with today’s tip.

Thursday January 3

NO DEAL

Ayr 12.30 WIN

The Scotland-based operation of Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore went into the New Year on the back of a poor sequence of 40 runners without a win, which earned it a place on the Racing Post’s dreaded cold list. But they bounced back in sparkling style here at Ayr yesterday by reeling off a hat-trick in the first three races, and hopes are high that the trend can be maintained by this lovely, big seven-year-old. After faring well in Irish point-to-points, the £30,000 that connections paid for him looked money well spent when he showed a terrific attitude to wear down a Donald McCain favourite in a bumper at Carlisle in November. Today he switches to hurdles, for which he has reportedly schooled well, and he is bred to relish what is sure to be a stamina slog over 3m on heavy ground.
