The Gainsborough and Morton 10k is held is such high esteem that the ‘Running World’ publication voted it third in their top ten of 10k races across the country. So, no wonder the next renewal, scheduled for Sunday, March 20, is eagerly anticipated.
Race director Kevin Housham, who has co-ordinated the event for the last four years, said: “I am delighted by the popularity of the 10k. We have a really good reputation now for an excellent race and this is reflected by the quality of runners that join us.
“The event is a chance to show off our town as well as raise money. The popularity of the 10k has even prompted me to look at introducing a more town-centre focused 5k race too
“One of the things we get complemented on is the quality of the goodie-bags each participant receives at the end of the race, and this wouldn’t be possible without the support we get from our sponsors.”
Those regular sponsors include Gainsborough Trinity Football Club, Kerry Ingredients, Lincolnshire Co-op, Funprintz, Horsley’s, Martin & Co and Gainsborough Giftware, who are joined this year by Marshall’s Yard, the town’s award-winning shopping centre.
Trinity chairman Richard Kane said: “It’s great to support this local event. The more Gainsborough can get recognised for things we excel in, the more our town is put on the map. Both the football club and the various other sporting events in the town bring people in to Gainsborough, which is great for the area.”
This year’s goodie-bags will also include sample fragances donated by Marshall’s Yard’s department store, Browns.
The centre’s manager, Alison Hall, said: “The race presents a fantastic opportunity for the town with more than 1,000 people visiting at once. The stores and eating establishments at Marshall’s Yard open every Sunday, so we hope that after the run, all the participants will come and enjoy a bit of relaxation.”
The current record time for the 10k is held by Ben Liversey, who won last year’s race in just over 30 minutes.
