Janet and Carole combat the tricky running conditions

The event is organised by Grantham Athletic Club and the race started on the track at Kesteven Sports Stadium before heading out into the Lincolnshire countryside and onto the Grantham to Nottingham tow-path.

The route went through Woolsthorpe and Belvoir, taking on some tough hills along the way before heading back to the race track for the finish.

Each finisher was rewarded with a finisher’s top, medal and goody bag.

Janet clocked 2 hrs 1 min.

She said: “It was the hardest race I have ever run because of the harsh weather conditions.”

On the same day, Carole Tumber ran the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon, which heads through the centre of Cambridge, passing some of the city’s finest buildings.

Carole was over the moon with her finishing time on 2 hrs 12 mins.

“Despite the poor weather I got a PB and shaved 12 minutes and 54 seconds of my Lincoln Half Marathon time, so I am very happy,” she said.
