Jarvis strikes gold at the nationals

Tom Jarvis was in peerless form as he swept aside the best players in England to win the gold medal at the Junior National Cup.

The 16-year-old Skegness player was invited to the tournament in Milton Keynes because of his position at the top of the Table Tennis England rankings.

Seeded first, he took on nine other top players in a round-robin event and beat them all, dropping only three sets in the process - two of them to ninth seed Matt Leete in his second match.

“Obviously I’m really happy and all the work I’ve done in training has paid off,” said the Skegness Grammar pupil.

“The aim was to come here and play like I know I can play - and I did it.

“I’m really happy to come away unbeaten because not many people do that.

“I played well in every match and that’s what gave me the chance to win.”

Jarvis will be representing England at the Italian Youth Open this week and then has the PG Mutual National Championships later this month.
