Sports clubs, groups and organisations across the county are hosting fundraising events throughout March to encourage more women and girls to take part in sport.

Janet Inman, chief executive officer at Lincolnshire Sport, said: “Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign is a fantastic way to encourage more women to take part in sport, and we’re huge advocates at Lincolnshire Sport.

“Since we announced the partnership with Sport Relief last week, we’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and response we’ve had from the This Girl Can community in Lincolnshire.”

Funds raised through Sport Relief will help transform lives across the UK and the world’s poorest communities.

The activities in Lincolnshire are part of a national campaign - so women who get sweaty are part of a nationwide effort to do something active and amazing for people in need.

Most of the activities in Lincolnshire will take place on Tuesday, March 8 - International Women’s Day - or the weekend of Sport Relief, Friday, March 18 to Sunday, March 20.

To help encourage other women to get involved, the This Girl Can team has created an app where you can upload a personal photo and add one of the special This Girl Can Sport Relief mantras, including: ‘I’m jiggling generously for Sport Relief’, ‘Slow fundraising beats no fundraising’ and ‘I’m donating my red face for Sport Relief’.

You can shout about this, and other ways you’re getting involved, by including #ThisGirlCan #SportRelief in all your posts and tweets.

Tanya Joseph, This Girl Can campaign director, said: “We’re really thrilled to be joining forces with Lincolnshire Sport and Sport Relief to raise vital funds for people who need help both here and in some of the world’s poorest countries.

“We know that it can be difficult to find the time and motivation to get out there and be active, so what better way than to do it than helping good causes at the same time.

“Fundraising is just like exercising; it’s not about how much you raise, or how you do it. What’s important is that you are doing something and having fun. That’s what matters, and it should be celebrated.”
