Jordan claims nine wickets

A whirlwind performance by West Indian paceman Ray Jordan proved to be too much for fellow strugglers Grimsby Town as Skegness breezed to a 203-run victory at Richmond Drive.

The Skegness overseas player followed up his 44 not out with some fearsome bowling to skittle out the Mariners for just 27 runs - three runs more than the lowest ever ECB total.

His nine wickets included a hat-trick to finish off the visitors’ innings.

Six of his victims were bowled.

Grimsby simply had no answer to the pace of Jordan after being set a target of 231, and the seasiders took just 17 overs to complete the job.

Jordan finished the day with figures of nine wickets for 15 runs.

Once again, after being put into bat, Skegness got off to a good start, Pradeep Chanditha and Dylan Labuschagne putting on 63 for the first wicket.

But it was the 76 runs off 79 balls from Norman Brackley, including eight fours and one six, that put the home side in pole position.

His partnership of 66 with Jordan was particularly memorable and edged them ever closer to the maximum five bonus batting points.

So Grimsby were presented with a target of 231 to win.

From the moment Neal Snell was caught behind by Sean Chamberlain off the bowling of Jordan, the visitors were in trouble.

Their highest partnership was the eight runs for the seventh wicket between Bailey Mawer and Hayden Tice.

Extras was by far the top scorer with eight wides and one leg-bye.

Jordan was just too hot to handle and only the wicket of Joe Farmery, off the bowling of Chanditha, prevented him claiming a full house.

His final three wickets removed the Grimsby tail in three consecutive balls to complete a miserable afternoon for the visitors, who slipped into the bottom two of the league table as a result.
