Junior atheletes show highly competitive edge

After the completion of the 28 events on the programme, Sparklers were the winning team with a total of 70 points, with Bangers runners-up on 47 points.

In third were Rockets on 42 points.

Flynn Slater enthusiastically led Sparklers to a convincing victory, winning all eight under 11 individual competitions, and marshalled his team to first place in both relay events.

Flynn impressed on the track recording 11.6 secs, 22.5 secs and 35.1 secs for one, two and three-lap races and recorded 1.70m in standing long jump, 4.92m in standing triple jump and 4.50m in chest push.

Sparklers’ under nine team member Hadyn Quantrill won all three track races with particularly good times over two laps (26.0 secs) and three laps (41.3 secs) and claimed second place in vertical jump with 28cm, speed bounce with 55 and standing long jump with a leap measuring 1.35m.

Corey Reader, the third member of the Sparklers, won all eight under seven competitions.

Corey’s standing triple jump best leap of 3.10m was impressive and, together with track performances of 14.2 secs for one lap, 27.6 secs for two laps and 44.7 secs for three laps contributed to the Sparklers’ superiority.

Second-placed Bangers were ably captained by Lyle Burrell-Kenny, who finished second in the under 11 one lap (12.5 secs), two laps (24.8 secs) and anchored the 3x one lap relay team to runners-up position.

Lyle excelled in the standing long jump, clearing 1.70m and achieved a distance of 4.76m in standing triple jump and a score of 68 in speed bounce.

The Bangers’ under nine representative Issy Reid scored maximum points in vertical jump (33cm) and standing triple jump (3.80m) and claimed second place in the two laps (26.5 secs) and then achieved a distance of 3.75m in her first chest push competition.

Devan Quantrill was Bangers’ third team member and claimed second places in the under seven one lap (15.9 secs), two laps (30.6 secs), three laps (49.9 secs), standing long jump (1.05m) and standing triple jump (2.66m) to add to the team’s points total.

Megan Reid skippered the Rockets, who pursued and pushed the Bangers right up to the final event on the programme, the 4x2 lap relay.

Megan was second in the three laps (40.0 secs), chest push (4.00m) and standing long jump (1.60m).

Under nine team member Jack Clark-Atkins won the speed bounce (56), chest push (4.00m) and standing long jump (1.40m).

Jack contributed to Rockets’ runners-up position in the 3x2 relay, clocking 1 min 26.0 secs.

Noah Donnelly-Coles added second place points in the under seven vertical jump, leaping 19cm, scoring 29 in speed bounce and recording 2m in chest pass.
