Junior rugby returns to Worksop

COMPETITIVE junior rugby has returned to the town, with Worksop Rugby Club youngsters turning out in their first ever fixtures against local rivals Retford and Dinnington.

Their debut was scheduled to be at Stubbing Lane, but was switched to Retford due to an unplayable pitch, and an inexperienced Worksop side produced some excellent rugby in a 55-38 defeat.

The tag rugby section fared somewhat better, playing three games ,winning one, drawing one and losing one, and a return game is scheduled for 13th January.

Worksop Under 14s then travelled to Dinnington for their second ever fixture, starting well and putting their hosts under early pressure.

A strong Worksop pack won almost every scrummage, allowing the visitors to run in four tries, with three conversions added.

Unfortunately, with Dinnington receiving too many injuries, the game was forfeited at halftime with Worksop coming away 26-0 winners.

There were star performances from captain Tom Metcalf, Reece Waddell, and Jud Lewis.
