Junior triathletes on form at big city event

The club entered 11 juniors in three categories at the popular event.

Sleaford youngsters competed from TriStar Start (age eight) to TriStar 2 (age 11-12) levels and completed a swim in a pool followed by a bike ride and a run, both on grass courses.

The youngsters arrived early to recce the very technical bike course before the race and then set up camp to wait for their events to begin.

The club had a very successful day and all the juniors performed well in their age categories.

There were two podium finishers in the TriStar Start category, with Josh and Hannah excelling to finish third boy and third girl, respectively.

They were presented with trophies to mark their achievements.

The club’s Sarah Bentley said: “Tri3 Sleaford are very proud of all of our juniors who took part at Nottingham.

“This is our first season with a full junior squad competing and they have shown a lot of dedication with their training.

“We are always looking for new opportunities for training and we will be spending a day at Billinghay open air swimming pool on June 4 to let them practice the full transition as well as our usual Saturday sessions at Scredington.”

There are more junior events in July and September and juniors coach, Mark Holman, is already planning the training for his young triathletes for next season.

l Tri Sleaford Triathlon Club’s seniors have again been in action representing the club at the British middle distance championships at Grafham Water, the Snowdonia Slateman Triathlon, the White Peak Marathon and the Ironman 70.3 in Austria.

l The first of the club’s three aquathons - a 400m swim and 5km run - took place on Monday with the next two due to be held on Monday June 20 and Monday July 18, at 6.15pm at Sleaford Leisure Centre.

The club was formed in 2013 by Nikki Fletcher, an award winning level three triathlon coach, for the people of Sleaford.

Athletes are able to go along and experience coached sessions designed for the development of individuals of all abilities in the multi-sport of triathlon.
