Juniors rewarded by international

The event, at Worksop Cricket Club, saw special guest Alan Scothorne dishing out the prizes.

Alan is probably the best match angler around today and has represented England on numerous occasions, winning the World Championships five times.

He was accompanied by wife Sandra, another exceptional angler who has captured two World Championships of her own.

The youngsters, their family and friends enjoying a fine buffet and entertainment in the form of a disco.

There were seven matches through the season the first three on Aston ponds, the next two at Lodge Farm, one at Sandhill Lake and the final on the Chesterfield Canal at Clayworth.

Chelsey Jeffcoate and James Fleeman took the honours in the first two competitions with Ryan Whiton taking the next three events.

Shane Seeley led the way on Sandhills and Jack Cardwell ran out the winner in the final match.

The aggregate trophy was won by Chelsey who also took the members trophy.

Ryan Whiton, who missed two matches with a broken leg, caught the biggest fish with a 16lb 2oz carp) and Jack Cardwell won the manager’s trophy.

It must be said that all the youngsters have an excellent attitude, asking all the right questions and displaying a willingness to learn.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

AT Sherwood Park Fishery Wednesday’s open on the Holmedale lake saw the competitors fishing through holes in the ice.

Pete Hodgetts fished the pole and 4mm pellet at peg 14 and landed four carp and a bream for 20lb 1oz for first place.

Worksop’s Geoff Mawby had a chub and a perch for second place with 1lb 2oz, with the rest of the field failing to register a single bite between them.

Lakeside at Ranskill, like most fisheries, has been affected by the freezing weather with the ice breaker needed to enable just a handful of anglers to fish.

But at the time of writing a gradual thaw is setting in so fingers crossed.

Wednesday’s open saw Paul Lancaster fish pole and pinkie on peg 33 to amass a winning net of skimmers weighing 24lb 6oz ahead of Mark Homes on peg 27 who pole fished worm and caster for 21lb 3oz.

In Sunday’s Woodseats winter league match, Graham Wilkinson pole fished maggot on peg 10 for a silverfish net of 22lb 5oz to claim the win.

Over on the trout lake Peter Jackson cast his gold headed damsel on a sinking line to land 12 fish to 8lb with Mark Radford slipping his landing net under nine fish to 6lb, which showed a liking to his various damsels presented on a floating line.
