The ladies played an individual stableford, but did not know Penny had decided to double their scores on both the fifth and 11th holes to find the winners.

Practising before she played certainly paid off for Wendy Beaumont (36) who had a great score of 43 points plus six to win with 49 points, reducing her handicap by four shots to 31.

Jan Heath (30) scored 37+6=43 to take the runners-up spot with 43 on a countback from Jane Briggs (22) who came third with 39+4=43 ahead of Jenny Rickett (18) who scored 38+5=43.

Mary Osmond (32) won the alternative nine-hole stableford with 15 points.

As the lady captain donated all of the prizes, the day raised £311 from entry fees for Penny’s chosen charity.

* The seniors played their summer sizzler of a Texas scramble followed by a barbecue at the courtyard.

Lee Fisher, Mark Ryder and Derek Kayee won with a score of 66-3.7=62.3.
