Kenwick Park: Sam set for clash with top European amateurs

Sam Done achieved a plus-two handicap after finishing third in the Lagonda Trophy.

The young homegrown Kenwick Park talent shot rounds of 71 and 69 at the Gog Magog Golf Club, in Cambridgeshire. Past champions of this event include Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.

Sam also produced a stunning back nine at Fulford Golf Club 10 days ago to shoot four under par and qualify for the Brabazon Trophy.

He will join Ashton Turner and Europe’s finest amateurs at the London Club later in the year.

* Kenwick’s men played the second of two medal rounds from the white tees played on consecutive Saturdays.

Alistair Damms won the round with a good score of 95-26=69 from runner-up Steve Ashby (77-7=70) and John Cryans who scored 92-21=71. David Mulholland took fourth with 86-15=71.

The first round leader Kevin Cowdroy and runner-up Mike Morley played well enough on the second Saturday to hold on to their positions.

The final combined results gave victory to Kevin with 68+75=143 to win on countback from Mike, also with 68+75=143. Kevin also earned a three-shot handicap reduction.

Lewis Hackett took third place with 76+74=150 on countback from Gareth Warren (75+75=150) and Kieron Spencer-Chaplin (74+76=150).

* The ladies held a qualifying round for the Coronation Foursomes.

Val Pattinson (17) and Wendy Green, (19) combined well to be the clear winners with 37 points and will represent Kenwick Park at the regional finals. Elaine Houlton (16) and Jenny Baxter (16) were second with 34, and Rose Stevenson (29) with Donna Wood (36) carded 32 to come third.

The ladies not playing in the Coronation Foursomes played either a 18-hole or a nine-hole stableford. The winners were Jo Herring (32), over 18, with 29 points, and Pat Botham (29), over nine, with 14.
