Last of the summer's fine for victorious tennis team

Woodhall Spa Tennis Club's Ladies' Firsts played their final summer league match at Jubilee Park at the weekend, beating Grimsby convincingly.

The 6-0 scoreline secured second position in the league behind Boston.

Playing for Woodhall were Alison Lauder with Jenny Caswell, Sue Bowser with Helen Mair and Bridgett Scott with Lorraine Wright.

Bridgett and Lorraine were involved in a very close rubber against the Grimsby second pairing.

They were the last match out on court and finally battled to a win in a deciding tie-break, coming from behind to clinch it 11-9 and thus giving the team a satisfying clean sweep of wins on the day.

Woodhall have entered a junior team in the Lincolnshire Mini Team League for the first time this autumn, and the youngsters played their first matches recently against Grantham and Horncastle.

It was a daunting challenge but they stepped up to the task and performed well, enjoying the whole experience.

Playing for Woodhall were brother and sister Daniel and Hannah Lauder.

Both played a singles match followed by doubles against each club.

Against Grantham Daniel recorded a 1-7, 1-7 loss nd a 7-3, 7-2 win while Hannah was defeated 1-7, 1-7 and 0-7, 0-7.

The doubles was a 3-7, 6-7 defeat.

Against Horncastle Daniel won his opening macth 7-2, 7-3 but lost his second 3-7, 3-7.

Hannah was beaten in two tie-breaks 7-3, 6-7, 7-5 and 7-3, 6-7, 5-7.

Again the doubles was a loss, this time by 7-4, 5-7, 6-7.
