Leaders take the points

RELEGATION threatened Worksop had the league leaders to contend with on Saturday, but the Stubbing Lane men came off second best.

Worksop had captain Kiel Billam out after a hand operation, so the team was juggled around and players forced to play out of their usual position.

It didn’t take the visitors long to get on the scoresheet with a quick try thanks to some poor Worksop tackling.

Further tries followed through more substandard defence.

But full-back Andy Waddell got the ball on the wing to jink inside and score, although he missed the subsequent conversion.

In the second half Worksop never gave up despite conceding more tries, but refereeing decisions also seemed to go against them.

The Dronfield scrum-half was sin binned, followed by Aaron Bainbridge and Alan Hopkinson for Worksop – leaving both sides unhappy with the officiating.

Worksop now only hope that they can grab a couple of wins out of the last five league games to avoid the drop.

Man of the Match for Worksop went to wing forward Liam Cooper.
