Leaders toppled in Orr-some display

After a delayed start to allow for some extra drying of the surface, Deeping captain Dave Gillet decided to bowl first.

The opening partnership of Kieran Evans and Tom Poole found it very tough as the ball moved around in the bowler-friendly conditions.

Both openers were dismissed by Ashley Fisher and Boston were 19-2 in an opening spell that included eight wides.

Jonny Cheer and Liam Sparke attempted to re-build the innings in a crucial partnership that edged Boston to 62-2.

However, a mad few overs changed things in favour of Market Deeping as Cheer, Ryan Croom, Sparke, Ben Troops and Peter Mitchell all fell as Boston were on 72-7.

Tom Baxter and Riley Orr were brought together at the crease, with Orr’s aggressive nature taking over as they added 55 for the eighth wicket.

Boston were 127-8 when Baxter was dismissed off the bowling of Mehul Adatia.

Twenty further runs were added for the last two wickets, and Orr ended the innings on 42 not out.

Lee Peacock ended the innings with incredible figures of 3-26 from 17 overs and he was ably supported by Adatia with 2-21 from 13 overs.

Both Deeping openers, Adatia and Ali Sharp, came out and tried to take the game to Boston but both fell with the score on 21, Orr and Tim Bell managing to beat their defences.

Patrick Harrington was trapped LBW by Orr and then two balls later, Bendon’s cover drive found the outstretched hand of Baxter to leave Market Deeping on Daniel 35-4.

With Jamie Morgan and Gillet, Market Deeping still had two very talented cricketers at the crease.

Morgan tried one big shot too many and Baxter took the catch, running round from mid-off off the bowling of Bell.

David Sargeant was then bowled by Baxter and Gillet found Croom’s hands at mid-wicket.

Runs started to come and Deeping edged closer and closer to their 148 total.

Baxter removed Fisher and Zac Simmonds as Deeping needed 31 to win with one wicket remaining.

The experienced Lee Peacock started to target the short boundaries and Baxter turned to even more experienced Paul Deans when 10 runs were needed for victory.

Three balls later and Boston had beaten the league leaders by nine runs. Boston’s 16 points propelled them to the top half of the division, sitting in sixth place.

Boston’s man of the match was Riley Orr for his 41 not out and his 3-55.
