Lee wants to play at home

Ahead of this week’s BMW PGA Championship, Lee Westwood has asked for more chances to play closer to home.

The Florida-based golfer will tee off at Wentworth on Thursday in the event he came so close to winning two years ago.

But it’s an all-too-rare opportunity to showcase his talents in front of British golf fans, he says.

“It’s nice to come home and play on home soil.”

“We’ve got so many good players at the moment, it’s a shame that the British public only get to see us once a year outside The Open.”

Worksop Golf Club’s finest export has made attempts to get his viewpoint across to golfing authorities.

He said: “I think rather than the need to fight the PGA Tour, you need to work with them and not try to go head-to-head.”

“I would like to see the European Tour build around this event in the future and have more big events.”
