Lincolnshire set for share of £4.5m health and well-being programme

Physical activity in Lincolnshire is set for a major boost thanks to a share of a national £4.5 million investment in a new health and well-being programme called '˜Get Out & Get Active'.

Funded by Spirit of 2012 and managed by the English Federation of Disability Sport, ‘Get Out & Get Active’ is a UK-wide initiative that will primarily focus on encouraging and supporting people with a disability to take part in active recreation.

Dugald Mackie, chairman of Spirit of 2012, said: “There are few more important health issues facing the UK today than the health consequences of sedentary lifestyles, and as an Olympic and Paralympic inspired charity, I believe strongly that Spirit of 2012 should be at the forefront of finding imaginative ways of tackling it”.

Barry Horne, chief executive for the English Federation of Disability Sport, said: “I am absolutely delighted that our consortium has been chosen by Spirit of 2012 to oversee such a major investment into communities across the UK. The programme will deliver exciting new opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to Get Out & Get Active”.

Lincolnshire Sport submitted the bid to Spirit of 2012 and were awarded £270,000 to deliver the programme in East Lindsey, alongside Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture. The project will aim to increase participation in fun and inclusive physical activity with volunteers being at the heart of the project by supporting people to lead more active lifestyles.

Ian Brown, equality and diversity manager at Lincolnshire Sport, said: “The Get Out & Get Active funding is great news for East Lindsey, and the county as a whole, and will ensure that there are inclusive opportunities for both disabled and non-disabled people to take part in physical activity together in their own communities.”
