Lincs ECB Premier: Jordan takes six-four, but Skegness CC pipped by Bourne

A six-wicket haul from West Indian paceman Ray Jordan couldn't stop Skegness slipping to a narrow defeat against Bourne at Richmond Drive on Saturday.

In a low scoring match, the Seasiders’ overseas player almost turned the game in their favour, conceding less than two-an-over along the way.

But a captain’s innings from Bourne skipper Peter Morgan saw the visitors home. He smacked an unbeaten 70 from 76 balls, including 10 fours and a six.

Skegness will reflect on their low score and consider what might have been, especially after again getting off to a good start.

Indeed openers Alistair Ainsworth and Pradeep Chanditha put on 51 for the first wicket before Chanditha perished, caught by Matthew Kidd off the bowling of Colin Cheer.

Jamie Epton failed to make an impression this week, but the home side shuffled towards three figures.

But with the score on 100 they lost three batsmen during a middle order collapse.

Tom Cuthbert added just the one run and Andrew Sylvester hung around for 28 balls for his single, but Skegness had slipped from 67-3 to 107-8.

Norman Brackley and Mark Chamberlain put on 41 to help bag a couple of batting bonus points, but the total of 159 was always going to be tough to defend.

And so it proved to be. Jordan did his best with another six-shooting performance, and Brackley chipped in with three wickets for 24 off his 12 overs.

When Jordan bowled Jack Berry, hope was restored with the score on 143-8.

But Ben Collins supported his skipper well and Morgan went on to hit the winning runs with eight overs to spare.

The defeat leaves Skegness in 11th ahead of Saturday’s trip to third-placed Sleaford, who beat Lindum last weekend. Noon start.
