It was a day where the tough terrain plus rain, snow, hail and a sharp wind all played their part in challenging the hardy athletes who took part.

Witton Park again proved its status as one of the best cross country venues in the country, and the race route was described by many as a true cross country test as the wintry conditions of mud, hail and rain gave the event some extra spice.

Fresh from their triumph at the Lincolnshire County Championships, veteran women Kerry Stainton, Trudy Roberts and Jane Cope finished 170th, 201st and 319th respectively, while Natalie Stainton finished 46th in the under 20s women’s event.

Nick Marsh and Jason Stainton finished 250th and 531st in the veteran men’s race.

Representing the under 15s boys’ team were Jevon George-Jones and Josh Tarrant who came 59th and 91st respectively, while Lucas George-Jones came 67th in the under 13s boys’ race.

The next big cross country test for the club is the English National Cross Country Championships at Donington Park, in Leicestershire, on Saturday.

* The club has plenty of people on hand to help new runners on their way, regardless of ability or experience.

Training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
